The Barnes Ranch mission statement summarizes our philosophy: To provide quality services and experiences in a safe, family-friendly environment with an emphasis on meeting your individual, group, or association goals and needs.

We emphasize quality and safety in all of our horse events. To that end, in the horse-related seminars, clinics, and events that we produce, our information is based on good research combined with experiences gained from a variety of disciplines, approaches, and philosophies.

Our approach is one of natural horsemanship in its truest sense and from its primary source - the horse. We train and interact with horses in the same way horses train and interact with each other. For example, we use the horse's natural flight instinct and herd instinct to initiate and control horse behavior. We do not use pain or fear to control the horse. The result is that the horse accepts our leadership in a calm manner and partners with us willingly to accomplish our goals.

When we sponsor outside clinicians for Barnes Ranch events, we attempt to hire clinicians with a similar approach to horsemanship who also emphasize quality and safety.

Much of our focus - riding lessons, VRH, and other skills and events - is on the 80% of the horse owners who are recreational riders. We understand and can relate to these riders who have full-time commitments and who need to limit their riding to a few times a week. Most of these riders own horses for fun and as a diversion from the "real world" and do not have the advanced skills and experience that a full-time professional trainer or instructor has. Many of our services are designed for the entry-level, intermediate, and recreational riders.

Many people have come to horses later in life and have real concerns about their safety, which in turn, can become confidence or fear issues. We are sensitive to those issues and have the experience to help people stay safe, increase their skills, and enjoy their horses.

Our careers include training, educating, and mentoring. This allows us to effectively instruct with an awareness of different learning styles and individual/group dynamics. By providing us with your group or association goals and needs, we can design and provide customized programs.

For non-horse events, we listen and let you know what we can do to make your event or program successful, with excellent communication and follow-up.

Come have a beverage, relax on our sittin' porch, and let the pastoral surroundings take you to a calmer place.
