Intro to VRH

The 3-Day Introduction to Versatility Ranch Horse Clinic is the best first step for understanding the VRH event. Over three days each rider and horse team gets an overview of the event, some basic performance riding tips and maneuver skills, and exposure to each of the VRH classes. No prior cattle experience is necessary.
Two introductory clinics are offered in 2012:
- March 23 – 25 – using ASHA rules as a guideline
- April 13 – 15 – using NVRHA and AQHA rules as a guideline
Riders practice in a class-by-class, step-by-step format. Professionally presented in a supportive environment, the clinic is low stress with a focus on safety and small successes. The rider will gain information, experience, and confidence to go forward in this multi-skilled event.
- Day 1: Dry Work Classes (such as ranch riding, ranch pleasure, trail)
- Day 2: Cattle VRH Classes (such as working ranch horse & ranch cutting)
- Day 3: Mock Competition (no stress, no judging – meant for you to put the VRH classes into a flow of what the VRH competition might feel like).
Take notes on Days 1 & 2 of what you and your horse are good at and what might need improvement. This can form a customized lesson plan for your further instruction in this event.
Each rider/horse will progress through the clinic at his/her own pace and skill level. Safety is the first priority. Clinic size is limited to 16 riders who are divided into two 8-rider groups. Space is available for unlimited auditors.
Barnes Ranch will design an introductory clinic around other breed association and riding clubs’ rules and regulations as requested.
